Welcome to my blog!
I was given the opportunity to create this blog as part of my practicum. I wanted to share my experiences and knowledge with those who want to live an active and healthy lifestyle. A big part as to why I decided to go into a Bachelor’s of Health and Physical Education is because of my love for sports and being active. I enjoy inspiring people and motivating them to stay active and try out different physical activities.
I am from Yellowknife, NT and I find that there is a lack of opportunity for a lot of talented and dedicated athletes in Yellowknife compared to athletes from down south. After I graduate I want to find a better way to give northern athletes that chance as well as to train and develop them to maximize their potential.
My own fitness journey has been a roller coaster. I was always a big kid in high school and I have always struggled with losing weight because I have always been a big foodie. My love for food and cooking makes it difficult for me to go on strict diets. I also tend to stress eat as a coping mechanism which did not help since I was usually stressed about school almost all the time.
In my experience, I always had trouble finding information on how to live an active lifestyle especially back in high school and so I wanted to create this website for students to access as a resource tool. I want to give students the knowledge that I wish I knew when I first started getting into an active lifestyle. I found that what stopped me from doing anything was the fact that I had no clue where to start.
“Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.” (The International Physical Literacy Association, May 2014). To get into physical activity you have to first learn about it and understand the concepts. By doing that, you are able to increase your confidence and feel motivated to put what you learned into action.
My website is simply here for the purpose of knowledge and getting you motivated to start on your journey to living an active and healthy lifestyle. 🙂
What does being “Active For Life” mean to me?
Being active for life doesn’t mean you have to give up guilty pleasures for good. They don’t have to be “guilty” at all. Enjoying pizza and burgers during a diet is not the end of the world as long as it is done in moderation. Skipping a gym session to attend a social event won’t destroy your progress as long as you only do it from time to time. You don’t have to change the things you love; but make time for yourself and your body because you only get one.
